Triumph reveals new Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer Edition, limited to just 800 motorcycles worldwide, each accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity

Elegant Cafe Racer sports style with clip-on handlebars and brown bullet seat, plus high-quality details including bar end mirrors

Exclusive British racing-inspired colour scheme and graphics

Available in dealerships from March 2026 (Markets to update)

Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled the Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer Edition a limitedrun model inspired by the original British cafe racers of the 1960s.

Limited to just 800 worldwide, this exclusive model is based on the Speed Twin 1200 RS, gaining clip-on handlebars, deleting the pillion pegs and featuring a distinctive brown bullet seat with removable cowl, as well as a carefully curated package of styling enhancements.

Each Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer Edition is also supplied with its own Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring the exclusivity of this Limited Edition motorcycle.

The elegant sports styling is defined by the low, tucked riding position created by the clip-on bars, the streamlined single-seat profile and the refined attention to detail throughout the motorcycle. Machined bar-end mirrors reinforce the bikes clean silhouette, while ribbed clutch and alternator cover badges, black head bolt covers and sculpted knee pads add subtle but distinctive detailing. Practical touches include pillion footpeg finishers, with the footpegs removed as standard and supplied in the crate for owners who wish to reinstate two-up capability.

Completing the look is an exclusive British racing-inspired colour scheme, combining Competition Green and Aluminium Silver paintwork with Aluminium Silver wheels and a colour-coded Competition Green headlight bowl.

Paul Stroud, Chief Commercial Officer, said: The latest Speed Twin 1200 has already struck a chord with riders across Europe and the US who value performance, style and everyday usability. Building on that success, the Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer Edition will sit at the top of the Speed Twin range, taking inspiration from the British cafe racer scene of the 1960s. With a global production of just 800 motorcycles, the Cafe Racer Edition will appeal to collectors and regular riders alike, offering more distinction and exclusivity, as well as combining heritage influence with premium specification and engaging performance.

ART IN MOTION
The Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer Edition has a committed riding stance, with low clipon handlebars, clean bodywork and a tapered rear end, that shift the rider forward and create a distinctly athletic silhouette.

The Cafe Racer Edition gains a striking Competition Green and Aluminium Silver colour scheme that blends contemporary elegance with classic racing heritage. Inspired by the iconic British Racing Green shade, this modern interpretation delivers a fresh yet familiar celebration of Triumphs racing history. The fuel tank is finished in Aluminium Silver as the primary colour, delivering a clean, modern metallic base with subtle depth and sheen. Competition Green panels form the secondary graphics, creating a modern, visual split.

A precisely applied Empire Gold coachline defines the transition between colours, adding a handcrafted, premium detail, while the Cafe Racer Edition graphic in Empire Gold completes the tank with a clear sense of exclusivity. The twotone theme continues across the seat cowl, finished primarily in Competition Green with Aluminium Silver detailing, and highlighted by a matching Empire Gold coachline that mirrors the tank and provides visual continuity from front to rear. The side panels, also finished in Competition Green, feature a bold Number 12 graphic in Aluminium Silver.

Completing the look, the headlight bowl and fork protectors are finished in Competition Green, while brushed aluminium front and rear mudguards add contrast, complementing the Aluminium Silver elements. The result is a Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer Edition that feels timeless and purposeful, rooted in Triumphs racing heritage, yet built with modern precision and attention to detail.

RAZOR LIKE RESPONSES
For riders seeking a more dynamic and engaging ride, the Speed Twin 1200 RS Cafe Racer features an even more focused riding position defined by low clipon handlebars. Just like the Speed Twin 1200 RS, its dynamic character is supported by topspecification suspension, with fully adjustable Marzocchi forks paired with hlins rear suspension units.

Braking performance is delivered by twin Brembo Stylema calipers acting on 320 mm discs, while highperformance Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tyres come fitted as standard, delivering confident braking performance with direct, consistent feel at the lever.

THRILLING AND CHARACTERFUL SPORTS PERFORMANCE
Power comes from Triumphs highcompression Bonneville 1200 twin engine, producing 105 PS at 7,750 rpm and delivering strong, sustained performance all the way to the 8,000 rpm rev limit. The distinctive 270degree firing order, combined with a lowinertia crankshaft, ensures an immediate throttle response and characterful power delivery, while strong torque is maintained throughout the rev range, peaking at an impressive 112 Nm.

CUTTING-EDGE PERFORMANCE-ENHANCING TECHNOLOGY
Combining modern performance with classic character, the riding experience can be tailored through Road, Rain and Sport riding modes, allowing the engine response to be matched to conditions and rider preference. Optimised Cornering ABS and Traction Control are fitted as standard, operating seamlessly in the background to support confident, controlled riding.

Just like the Speed Twin 1200 RS, the Cafe Racer Edition is equipped with Triumph Shift Assist that complements the character and power delivery of the engine. Discreetly positioned behind the gearshifter, the system maintains the clean, uncluttered appearance that defines the motorcycles modern classic style.

LCD and TFT displays are neatly housed within a traditional circular dial to enhance clarity and functionality while preserving the Speed Twins timeless look. This layout enables turnbyturn navigation and phone connectivity, while also incorporating a conveniently positioned USBC charging socket, subtly integrated to maintain the bikes refined finish.

CATEGORY-LEADING PREMIUM FINISH AND DETAILING
Timeless design is paired with advanced engineering, incorporating modern technology within classic-inspired styling details. The clean, uncluttered appearance is achieved by carefully concealing cables and hoses, while the fuel tank features raked lines and deep front cutouts, finished with a flipup filler cap for a clean, purposeful look.

The black powdercoated engine casings and compact silencer contribute to the uninterrupted exhaust run and underline the motorcycles timeless character. At the front, an elegant round headlight incorporates full LED lighting with a distinctive DRL signature.

HISTORY OF THE CAFE RACER
The British cafe racer movement emerged in the 1960s, centred around transport cafes such as the Ace Cafe in London. Triumphs paralleltwin Bonneville engines became a natural choice for cafe racers, combining strong performance, balanced handling and unmistakable British character. Decades on, that influence remains, with Triumph customers and custom designers reinterpreting the spirit and style of the original cafe racers through modern engineering, performance and design.

ON THE ROAD
Customers in the UK can ensure they are the first to secure their new Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer Edition using Triumphs new Reserve My Triumph technology. This new bike reservation service will be progressively introduced across Europe and other major markets from Spring 2026. The new Speed Twin 1200 Cafe Racer will be available to order from 15,995 OTR.

<title>TRIUMPH INTRODUCES MAJOR 2026 UPDATES TO TRIDENT 660 AND TIGER SPORT 660</title>
    <link>https://www.staffordshiretriumph.co.uk/news-and-events/triumph-introduces-major-2026-updates-to-trident-660-and-tiger-sport-660</link>
    <description>
Triumph announces significant updates to its 660cc road-focused range, with the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 receiving their most significant upgrades to date.

Higher performance 660cc triple engineproducing an impressive 95PS and 68Nm of torque.

New bodywork and graphic schemes for both models, and a bigger fuel tank for the Tiger Sport 660.

Chassis refinements and improved ride quality for both models, with a revised frame and new Showa rear suspension unit for the Trident 660.

Triumph is taking its popular Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 to the next level with their most significant updates yet. These updates deliver more performance, making the Trident 660 a much sportier choice, while the Tiger Sport 660 delivers character and excitement, while also improving its touring capability.

At the heart of the upgrade is a major engine enhancement. Both models now feature a higher-performance 660cc triple engine, producing an impressive 95PS and 68Nm of torque. This step up in power puts the Trident 660 at the top of middleweight roadster class, while the Tiger Sport 660 combines its new performance with improved touring capability for riders who want to go further, asserting its position as the ultimate middleweight all-rounder.

The updates dont stop at the engine. The Trident 660 gains a more muscular stance with new bodywork and a chiselled fuel tank, reinforcing its athletic roadster attitude. The Tiger Sport 660 introduces a larger 18.6-litre fuel tank and new bodywork including updated radiator cowls, improving range and weather protection on long rides.

Both models retain their agile, confidence-inspiring handling, now complemented by chassis refinements and improved ride quality. The Trident 660 benefits from a new Showa rear suspension unit for improved adjustability, while the Tiger Sport 660 retains its accessible ergonomics and low seat height, ensuring comfort for everyday riding and long-distance touring.

The latest updates to the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 are complemented by bold new colour schemes and graphics that enhance their distinctive styling. For the Trident 660, the vibrant Cosmic Yellow and Stone Grey take centre stage as the premium paint choice, with Snowdonia White offered as standard.

The Tiger Sport 660 introduces Interstellar Blue with Mineral Grey alongside Silver Ice with Intense Orange as its striking new premium options, and the standard option, Pure White. These fresh designs give riders even more ways to personalise their bike while maintaining Triumphs premium finish and attention to detail.

Updated 660cc Triple Engine
Both the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 benefit from the higher-performance version of Triumphs 660cc Triple, achieved through a series of mechanical changes and a new engine tune. Peak power is now 95 PS at 11,250 rpm, an increase of 14 PS, with the redline raised by 20% to 12,650 rpm for a livelier top end. Torque also sees an uplift to 68 Nm at 8,250 rpm, with 80% of that available from 3,000 rpm right through to almost 12,000 rpm, ensuring strong, flexible performance across the rev range.

This combination makes the Trident 660 sportier and more engaging, while the Tiger Sport 660 offers added touring capability, whether riding two-up or fully loaded all while retaining easy, accessible performance and A2 licence compatibility.

A key part of the performance upgrade comes from significant changes to the engine hardware, including a move from a single throttle body to three individual 44mm throttle bodies, one for each cylinder. This update further enhances the sporty nature of Triumphs three-cylinder design, delivering the ideal balance of strong low-down torque with even more mid-range and top-end power. These changes work in harmony with the new engine tune to provide riders with a more responsive and characterful experience across the rev range.

Further enhancing performance and responsiveness, the engine benefits from a larger, front-mounted airbox that improves airflow and delivers a more engaging induction sound. The cylinder head has also been re-engineered with larger exhaust valves and a higher-lift cam profile to optimise combustion and power delivery. To manage the increased performance, the cooling system has been upgraded with a larger, repositioned radiator and fan, ensuring efficient temperature control even in demanding riding conditions.

Completing the performance package is a new engine tune that brings a series of refinements. Alongside the increased torque and raised redline, the calibration has been optimised for smoother low-RPM throttle openings and improved overall throttle response. These changes ensure the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 deliver accessible, predictable performance with added excitement across the rev range.

The performance upgrades are complemented by a series of key component revisions. The exhaust system now features a 3-into-1 header design with a revised catalyst and an underslung silencer, contributing to both efficiency and the distinctive Triple sound.

The six-speed gearbox has been updated with new input and output shafts, revised gear ratios and final drive, plus recalibrated Triumph Shift Assist for smoother, more precise changes. A new slip and assist clutch further enhances ease of use, reducing lever effort and improving control for everyday riding and longer journeys.

Paul Stroud, Chief Commercial Officer, Triumph Motorcycles, said: Both the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 have built a huge following worldwide, attracting riders of all ages and experience levels, from those new to motorcycling to experienced riders. The Trident 660 has also brought more female riders to Triumph than any other model in our line-up. These bikes have won multiple awards and introduced a new group of riders to the Triumph brand.

For 2026, weve taken both bikes to the next level. The result is a significant performance increase, which puts the Trident 660 back at the top of its class and secures the Tiger Sport 660s position as the segment leader. Alongside this, both models gain important chassis and styling updates that enhance their presence and capability, while retaining the accessibility and A2 licence compatibility that have made them so popular.

The Tiger Sport 660 sits within the Adventure Sport-Touring segment, appealing to riders who want a versatile bike for commuting during the week, fun riding at weekends, and longer touring trips often two-up and fully loaded. The Trident 660, on the other hand, is a middleweight roadster that has become a favourite for riders looking for an agile, stylish machine for urban riding and spirited back-road fun. These updates ensure both models continue to deliver exactly what their riders value most, with even more performance and refinement.

The Trident 660 retains its agile, confidence-inspiring handling, now enhanced with chassis updates for 2026. With 80% of that torque available from 3,000rpm through to almost 12,000rpm, riders will enjoy strong, flexible performance and intuitive throttle response at any point on the rev range, ideal for riding two-up, or fully loaded for touring.

As with the Trident 660, this step up in performance comes from significant engine hardware changes, including three individual 44mm throttle bodies, a larger airbox, revised cylinder head, and a new engine tune. The redline has been raised by 20% to 12,650rpm, giving the Tiger Sport 660 an even more engaging top end while retaining the smooth, linear delivery that makes it easy to ride every day.

The distinctive triple soundtrack remains a hallmark of the Tiger Sport, now enriched by the triple throttle bodies and new induction system, complemented by a compact underslung silencer. A revised exhaust system with a 3-into-1 header and updated catalyst ensures compliance with the latest standards without compromising character.

The six-speed gearbox has been refined with updated shafts, revised ratios, and recalibrated Triumph Shift Assist for quicker, smoother gear changes. A slip and assist clutch reduces lever effort and improves control, making the Tiger Sport 660 ideal for urban riding and long-distance touring. An A2 licence conversion kit is available for European riders, and LAMS variants are offered in Australia and New Zealand.

The 2026 Tiger Sport 660 introduces new bodywork and styling updates that enhance its presence and touring capability. The larger 18.6-litre fuel tank increases range for longer adventures, while the adjustable windscreen can be easily adjusted with one hand, taking the height from 1312mm to 1395mm. Accessory options such as heated grips and handguards provide additional comfort in challenging conditions.

This combines to make the Tiger Sport 660 ideal for commuting, weekend rides, and extended touring.

The Tiger Sports distinctive design is finished with subtle Triumph branding and premium details throughout. Premium colour schemes include the dramatic Interstellar Blue &amp; Mineral Grey or Silver Ice &amp; Intense Orange for an extra 150, with the Pure White scheme as standard.

The Tracker 400 brings stripped-back flat track attitude, while the Thruxton 400 reimagines an iconic name with authentic caf racer style for a new generation. Together, these models offer riders, more fun, more style and an even sportier ride.

TRACKER 400: FLAT TRACK STYLE FOR THE ROAD

The new Tracker 400 draws inspiration from flat track racing, capturing the raw, stripped-back aesthetic and competitive spirit synonymous with this class, channelling the style and attitude of bikes built for the oval dirt track.

Stripped Back Attitude
Designed to stand out in the crowd, the Tracker 400 combines race-inspired styling with aggressive lines for an unmistakable flat track silhouette. Classic Triumph design cues and the iconic engine profile make this a true Modern Classic.

The tracker-style fuel tank, with its sculpted knee cut-outs, pairs seamlessly with the fly screen and colour-coded seat cowl and the dual-spoke wheels with blocky dual-purpose Pirelli MT60 RS tyres, deliver a bold, sporty stance. As a Triumph Modern Classic, it features the signature engine profile with powder-coated covers and bright-machined cylinder head fins. That unmistakable Triumph DNA runs throughout, with a classic round LED headlight up front and flowing twin upswept silencers at the rear.

The Tracker 400 is offered in three striking race-inspired colour schemes, each showcasing bold Tracker lettering on the fuel tank, set against sleek racing stripes with dramatic mud-splatter detailing that extends seamlessly onto the seat cowl. A distinctive number board proudly displaying 400 pays tribute to legendary flat track racers.

The Aluminium Silver Gloss scheme is accented with Racing Red graphics across the fuel tank, seat cowl, number board, and wheels. Racing Yellow delivers a vibrant statement with its bold yellow tank and seat cowl, contrasted by Phantom Black elements and Racing Yellow highlights on the number board and wheels. For a darker, more aggressive look, Phantom Black combines moody black with Dark Silver, Vanilla White, and Pearl Metallic White accents across the tank, cowl, number board, and wheels.

An Enhanced Riding Position
Upright and elbows out thats the essence of Flat Track style. Wider handlebars, set 23mm broader and 134mm lower than those on the Speed 400 to enhance the bikes dynamic stance. Footpegs are repositioned 86mm further back and 27mm higher, creating a confident, aggressive posture. These ergonomics ensure that the Tracker 400 rides exactly how it looks, with bold and commanding presence.

Engineered for fun, sporty performance, the Tracker 400 has a dedicated chassis and premium suspension set-up. Up front, black anodised 43mm upside-down big piston forks offer 140mm of travel, while the rear gas monoshock RSU provides 130mm of travel with preload adjustment for pillion riding. Dual-purpose tyres with a blocky tread pattern complete the look, offering flat track style with road-focused grip and handling.

The Tracker 400 integrates advanced rider technology without compromising its classic aesthetic. A seat height of 805mm with features like torque-assist clutch, switchable traction control, and ABS make the ride accessible and enjoyable. A contemporary single-dial analogue speedometer paired with a digital tachometer delivers essential information at a glance, with all wiring neatly hidden to preserve the clean, timeless Triumph look.

Exciting and Characterful Engine
The latest model features a new and more powerful iteration of Triumphs class leading TR series engine. This has been achieved through a combination of new mechanical parts, including a revised camshaft profile, along with a new engine tune. This results in a five per cent increase in peak power, now producing 42PS peak power at 9,000 RPM, with a higher rev limit and stronger peak power at the top of the rev range. This allows the Tracker 400 to rev harder and higher, for an exhilarating and addictive throttle response that encourages the rider to exploit the performance available and ride this bike with the attitude it deserves.

The enhanced engine also retains the 37.5Nm of peak torque, with 80 per cent of this available from 3,000 RPM, offering that linear, torque rich performance that adapts to any riding scenario. The ride by wire throttle ensures intuitive throttle response all the way through the six speed gear box.

    <title>Project Triumph TE-1 Prototype Motorcycle Design</title>
    <link>https://www.staffordshiretriumph.co.uk/news-and-events/project-triumph-te-1-prototype-motorcycle-design</link>
    <description>
With the exciting reveal of the innovative advanced electric powertrain and battery and the first styling sketches for the final Project TE-1 Prototype, Phase 2 of this landmark four phase collaboration in British design and engineering reaches a successful conclusion.

Delivering on the objectives announced at the start of the TE-1 project in May 2019, focused on developing specialist electric motorcycle technology and innovative integrated solutions, this unique collaboration between Triumph Motorcycles, Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd, and WMG at the University of Warwick funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, has already achieved significant results.

Including innovation in battery and powertrain design, initial test performance results far exceed the current benchmarks and industry targets. Developments in performance, efficiency and range is enabling Project TE-1 to fully deliver the partnerships objectives to enhance the credibility and profile of British industry providing substantial input into future electric motorcycle strategy from Triumph.

Announcing the completion of Phase 2- with the reveal of the battery and powertrain prototype, initial high level performance results, and the first design concept drawings for the Project TE-1 Prototype motorcycle that will be created at the end of the next phase.
Key project achievements to dateinclude test results that show significant innovation in mass, battery technology, and powertrain performance that exceeds the target set by the UK Automotive Council for 2025, meeting the projects ambitious objectives to deliver genuine innovation for a new standard in fully usable electric motorcycle performance.
Project TE-1 is a unique collaboration between four major UK industry and academic leaders- Triumph Motorcycles, Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd.s e-Drive Division, and WMG at the University of Warwick.
The objective of this two-year project is focused on developing electric motorcycle capabilities- providing an input into Triumphs future electric motorcycle offer, driving innovation, capability and new intellectual property, enhancing the credibility and profile of British industry and design.
Project TE-1 is fundedby the UK Governments Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), and delivered through Innovate UK

The completion of Phase 2, and the promising results achieved to date, provide an exciting glimpse of the potential electric future and showcase the talent and innovation of this unique British collaboration. Without doubt the outcome of this project will play a significant part in our future efforts to meet our customers ambition and desire to reduce their environmental impact and for more sustainable transportation, said Nick Bloor, Triumph CEO. This important project will provide one of the foundations for our future electric motorcycle strategy, which is ultimately focussed on delivering what riders want from their Triumph; the perfect balance of performance, handling and real world usability, with genuine Triumph character.

PROJECT TE-1 PHASE 2 OUTCOMES

Battery and powertrain prototype

WILLIAMS ADVANCED ENGINEERING (WAE)

Based on the agreed specification, we identified appropriate cell technology and battery architecture to deliver the performance objectives. Using this as a framework, we then optimised the battery module layout to balance mass and positioning within the prototype chassis taking into consideration centre of gravity, space and relationship with the powertrain and charging approach.

In addition to the module layout, we have also developed a new and unique vehicle control unit which is integrated into the battery pack to minimise weight and packaging. In parallel, WAE has also created innovative battery management software to ensure power is delivered in relationship to battery performance.

The outcome of Phase 2 for WAE includes a fully bench-tested battery with performance results that exceeds anything else on the market in terms of Power and Energy Density.

We are delighted to be working on this project, working to deliver next-generation battery technology and control systems. Within the current landscape, most electric motorcycle technology arguably delivers compromised performance at low levels of battery charge. By using a lightweight, compact solution we have been able to give the rider all of the performance all of the time (regardless of battery charge), and a class leading range. We have focussed on pushing the boundaries to reduce mass and optimise frame position to benefit handling. We have also pushed the limits of battery performance, balancing the design for acceleration and range, with simulations modelled on track-based riding. In other words, as aggressive as possible, saidDyrr Ardash, Senior Commercial Manager, Williams Advanced Engineering. The energy density of this new battery will be a significant step forward from existing technology giving the rider more power, for longer. WAE has also designed and developed an electronic control unit from the ground-up combining the battery management system with the bike control functions in one package. This is a first for this market, benefiting packaging and integration whilst optimising performance and range.

        INTEGRAL POWERTRAIN LTD.S E-DRIVEDIVISION

Our experience in cutting edge motor and inverter design and manufacture has helped us to push this technology on to the next level for the TE-1 project. In Phase 1 we worked to integrate the normally separate motor and inverter into one single, compact, package. Integration reduces the mass and volume of the drivetrain by reducing additional boxes on the vehicle, mounting features, coolant pipework and heavy high voltage connections.

The innovative integration concept is also a fully scalable one, whereby the number of power stages can increase for larger diameter, higher torque motors for example. Combined with our state-of-the-art motor technology, we have seen very exciting results already, with the motor achieving a power density twice that of the target set by the UK Automotive Council for 2025.

We have also implemented advanced silicon carbide switch technology in the inverter, this reduces losses in the inverter and results in greater drivetrain efficiency, power delivery and range. At the end of Phase 2, we are proud to have built a fully operational, new, prototype motor that has been bench tested and is delivering on all aspects of performance.

&quot; One of the most influential factors in how well a motorcycle handles and performs is mass, so at Integral Powertrain we have focused heavily on making a step change in motor and inverter design, removing heavy high voltage cables for example. This delivers a product that is significantly more compact and lighter than anything currently available on the market. The motor produces 130kW or almost 180 horsepower, but weighs only 10 kilograms, much lighter than existing technology and clearly a small fraction of the mass of traditional internal combustion engines, saidAndrew Cross, Chief Technical Officer at Integral Powertrain Ltd.The silicon carbide switch technology in our new scalable integrated inverter will help set new standards in terms of electric motorcycle efficiency; application of this technology means a lighter weight overall with significantly more performance and range. In parallel, we have a very strong focus on design for manufacture and assembly activity, so that all this high motor and inverter performance can be offered cost-effectively. Ultimately, this is really going to be an industry-leading powertrain that will help define the future of electric mobility. With the TE-1 project we are proud to be part of this landmark project for British industry.

WMG, AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

At WMG we have been working closely with all the TE-1 partners during Phase 1 and 2 to develop representative models to simulate the systems of the bike including battery, motor and vehicle control. Initially this allowed us to validate the specification against the intended component selection by assessing performance criteria such as range and top speed with initial models. This has enabled Triumph to carry out software development at an early stage prior to hardware being built with thorough testing programmes to ensure that real-life testing can deliver on refinement. Most recently we have been conducting powertrain rig testing using the prototype IPT powertrain to ensure our simulations are accurate and to confirm that the motor functions within the system as intended. We have also been providing guidance to Triumph relating to future legislation, charging infrastructure and recycling strategies that will need to be implemented across future electric motorcycle platforms.

Our creation of initial computer-based simulation models at the start of Phase 1 has been instrumental in ensuring that the component selection was appropriate to achieve the performance targets defined by the partners for the TE-1 Prototype. We have continued with this work across Phase 2 of the project, refining the models to a much more complex level to allow us and the partners to imitate further components on the bike such as braking, throttle, lighting and other systems and mimic real-world riding to provide development opportunities before components were fully designed. Additionally we have created a physical rig wired with all of the control units, in order to implement a design validation test programme to ensure the function of each section was within the allowable range, said Truong Quang Dinh, Assistant Professor of Energy Management and Control Systems at WMG, University of Warwick.

TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLES

Throughout phase 2 Triumph have developed an all new advanced vehicle control software which incorporates all of the electrical systems to ensure intuitive throttle response, regen braking, traction control and all of the dimensions that a customer would expect from a high-performance Triumph motorcycle. Additionally, we have integrated leading functional safety strategies into this software, plus supported WMG in rig testing and have also fully developed the new prototype instrument display. Alongside this electrical and control system work, we have designed a brand-new prototype chassis including main frame and rear frame which have been optimised alongside the battery and motor packages which will be further evolved in Phase 3 into the TE-1 Prototype which will be used as a mule test platform in Phase 4. During this chassis development we have taken into account both the transmission design and the final styling of the TE-1 Prototype, the drawings of which we are pleased to reveal for the first time today.

Steve Sargent, Triumphs Chief Product Officer saidThe starting point for us in the TE-1 project was to gather important customer feedback about what riders really want from their motorcycles and understand how an electric motorcycle can provide the experience that riders desire. This includes considering the type of riding, range, feel and nature of power and torque delivery together with the ergonomics and bike controls. Taking all of this feedback into consideration we began the chassis design, focusing on bringing everything together on the TE-1 Prototype in a way that provides a riding experience that is exciting and new but ultimately familiar. We have begun to define the powertrain and battery interaction through the use of software refinement to deliver an exhilarating power delivery and throttle response, which provides great control and feels intuitive to the rider. Overall with the styling we wanted to create something that is fresh and exciting but a natural evolution of the Triumph brand. Something desirable in its own right, with distinctive Triumph DNA and definitely not something that is different just for the sake of being different. Pulling all of this together with the partners we are thrilled to see the progress of such an exciting demonstration vehicle which incorporates the cutting-edge technology needed to guide the strategy for the future roadmap of electric motorcycles from Triumph. The team are proud to be leading such an innovative, strong and dynamic project with a fantastic group of partners which ultimately should set British engineering and design rightly at the forefront of future 2 wheel design.

<title>A REAL WORLD REVIEW OF THE NEW ROCKET 3</title>
    <link>https://www.staffordshiretriumph.co.uk/news-and-events/a-real-world-review-of-the-new-rocket-3</link>
<description>Its the run up to Christmas the s**ts hitting the fan and everything needs to be sorted at work, final presents to be bought and the weather is restricting ride time. Then out of the blue, a message pops up from Steve Bailey at Staffordshire Triumph Fancy taking one of the most eagerly awaited bikes out for a test ride? We need a real person to give us their views on it, not some journo.

My immediate thought was that Steve wanted me to take out the recently launched Speed Triple which would have been fun. Ive got a new Rocket 3 coming in early next week, you would be one of the first to ride it? Im awake! Now youve got my attention! Two and a half litres of Cruiser, probably 5 years in the making, what an opportunity. Looks like the 23rd is half decent weather, we should have the PDI done by then, are you free?

So, Ive now got to play hooky from work too. Hey, the boss will understand and there are a lot of colds and flu about Its 11 degrees, low sun, and there she is hiding around the back not to be launched for another month.

First thoughts, now thats a big bike! Seats quite low, the tank is huge, then you just look at it and realise how beautiful she is. Everything appears to have been sculpted out of a single block of marble, the lines are so smooth, nothing is out of place, this has been designed from the bottom up. Climb on board and you sit quite low and almost become part of the bike. Its a little firmer than you initially expect, keyless ignition so no need to take your gloves back off, press to turn her on, clutch in, press again and she springs into life. What a glorious sound, how will electric bikes ever catch on, the solid purr almost gentle growl as she ticks over.

This is almost a third of a tonne of machine, 20k, not even launched and Ive got the side stand up and clicking her into gear! Reality hits, Im going on the road with this monster of a machine over twice the sized motor of my current bike. Gentle away and into the traffic, the urge to nail it just to see what it can do is tempered by respect for this masterful piece of engineering.

So the route, if you know Staffordshire Triumph, there are 4 roundabouts to negotiate and a sharp sweeping right before you hit the A500, the sort of right you just want to scrape the pegs on, throttle back and she glides to 70 mph effortlessly. Its a Cruiser so I take the M6 junction 16 - 19, she copes fine hardly any wind buffering this feels big even on a motorway which even on my current bike can feel like you are a bit vulnerable but not on the Rocket. She feels at home. 6th gear, you would be forgiven to think Triumph would make this a real cruising gear with the need to drop to 5th once in a while Hell no. 6th gear is so responsive, ease on the gas and she just pulls, let off and the engine braking easing you back down. My initial fears have gone. Is it going to be too big? Is it going to be too heavy? Is it going to handle, or will I have to fight her around every movement? No This is a joy, my smile is at silly kid level and Im still on the M6!

So, the M6 becomes the A556 towards Chester, still a dual carriageway, still the home of the cruiser. A few more bends, traffic lights to launch from and I even try a cheeky filter, low speed inching through. A police bike is at the lights to my right, Im away first just knowing hes clocked the bike and sure enough, two sets of lights later and hes right behind me. We forget theyre bikers first and police second. Hes taking a good look and realises it is what he thought it was. Ease her away from the lights and then soon its a left down the lanes towards Oulton Park!

Well, I did give it some throttle and yes it does 70mph within the blink of an eye. Smooth hard acceleration, hard on the brakes, back on the power around the bends playing the gears. This is as much at home through the bends under sport bike pressure, throttle again and you are passed 1, 2, 3 whoa this is way more fun than I was expecting!

Off through the lanes out of Oulton Park towards Tarporley and onto the Whitchurch Road. This beast is flowing now, my confidence is up a few notches, out of one of the many villages power on past a car coming out of the 30 the back-end twitches on the white lines which brings me back to the real world! Then take the A525 to Audlem, out to Nantwich then back to Triumph. A good 2 hours of pure fun, a cheeky winter ride on a very special machine. I then get on my bike which is only just 3 years old to ride home and realise quite how brilliant the Rocket is and how much in those 3 years bikes have moved on.

A huge thank you guys an early Christmas present through a dreary period where bikes are often hidden away for the winter, no get out and ride you can always get the hose out when you get back.
